How to pay for this?

Postby wanttofly on Mon Feb 01, 2010 12:47 pm

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum so sorry if this has been answered before.

Basically i am a 21 yea old male and have one more year left at uni - studying mechanical engineering.

I have always wanted to be a pilot and cannot see myself doing anything else!

I am hoping to apply to oxford academy but I am not sure how students are able to pay £70000 for the training.

I heard that HSBC have stopped issuing their professional loans, so how else do people pay the fees?

Unfortunately my family would not be able to help me out financially.

Is there hope left for me? :(

Thanks again.

There is always hope if you have the will to work for it and the patience to wait while you do the work. You may have to take an engineer job to earn enough to train. I know a young man whose parent's lived in council housing and he was a bus driver. He ultimately couldn't fund the Integrated course, but about three years after he realized this, I saw him back here doing the Modular MCC course.

The only thing that can possibly stop you will be not wanting it bad enough to make the required sacrifices.

As for loans, you should not try to borrow the whole lot, even if a bank were willing to lend it all. That brings us back to the above suggestion to find an engineering job and try to save up at least £20-30K of what you will need. HSBC doesn't offer a loan any more, but BBVA offer one with slightly more flexible terms than HSBC did. They still require UK property as security though.
