algebra in the maths test? and what's in the physics

Postby adam_newby on Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:20 pm

how much algebra if any is there in the maths test ??

and what physics do I need to know, I have the OAT MEDIA essential physics part 1 and 2 and am working my way through them is this enough to pass the physics section?

I also have the essential gcse maths and worked through most of it as iv sent of my application to do the assessment and hoping to do it within the next 2month really want to focus down my studying iv been told to concentrate on: mental multiplication and division, ratios, fractions, percentages and time distance calculations does this sound right?

Thanks for all and any help in advance

Adam,

Have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=5266

As for algebra, how much algebra can you do without a calculator?

You could say that anything involving a formula is algebra, so Ohm's law and Pythagora come to mind. I haven't seen every version of our maths test, but I don't think you'll see anything particularly deep on any version of it.

I have seen people fail the maths or physics test even after using the OAA Media CDs. This could be down to their inability to assimilate the knowledge or it could be due to inability to apply the theory they learnded to a real world problem. It is rare for anyone who studiously uses the CDs to fail though.

When you look at the above link, you'll see the maths there doesn't go as deep as the CD does. Try to finish the CD anyway, if not before assessment, at least before ground school, as you will see a lot of maths in ground school. It would be a shame to pass assessment only to struggle with maths during the course.

Adam, the physics test is not as much a test of how much physics you know; but more a test on your practical knowledge of physics and how this relates to flying.
"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci

so hope pass been dreaming about this for last 3years! iv handed in my notice at work so I can just focus on passing this assessment for the next few weeks! its time for studying and gym and nothing else !!! :D
