sport and injuries

That's a key point imho...

As a passionate rugger I was thinking about joining a rugby club near Oxford (when I'll start my course obviously) but when two weeks ago I twisted my ankle playing the seven-a-side version of the game here in Italy (we've got a rumenian flanker who tackles hard and now I'm forced to use a couple of crutches to move around) my will to keep playing rugby even during the ground school started to fade: I don't want this passion to affect my path on left-hand seat of an airliner :P

Would be great to hear opinions of those who have already passed through this stage and how did they deal with that case.

Giorgio,

In terms of your career I think its a personal choice whether to continue playing rugby or not...You must bear in mind the fact that annual medicals will be required throughout your career, and that some airlines are not willing to pay sickness leave.

From the educational side..there have been numerous fellow students who suffered some form of injury playing sports which have led to them being grounded from flying..Examples including a twisted ankle (2 weeks grounded), a fractured leg (3 months) or even something as small as a bruised finger playing basketball (4 days).

The last thing you want is to get through groundschool and then injury yourself playing rugby and defer your flying....it has happened!!!
