Ryan 2811 cares, though I am not sure why. I give him the benefit of doubt and chalk it up to normal newby curiosity, but I suspect he's been had by a prankster. I don't disagree with your point, but did you fail to notice that many of the replies are a bit ascerbic and sarcastic? One can find a friendlier way of nudging the newbies away from the focus on rank trappings, etc. Of course, it's a bit trickier for the moderator to adopt the grumpy old man approach.
The whole thing reminds me of my military days when the mechanics would send a newby to get a can of jet, prop or rotor wash. Each successive department he visited would tell him that another department just borrowed it. Some figured out quicker than other's that they were chasing a product of Newton's imagination.
